Normandale Dog Park

Normandale in Northeast Portland has something for everyone. With three separate enclosures, including one exclusively for small dogs, this is one of Portland’s most popular dog hangouts. And for good reason: there’s lots of activity, abundant shade, two water spouts, and a parking lot.
Play Features
If your dog likes social play, this dog park is always a good time. The main off-leash area stretches for more than a hundred yards, and there’s usually a decent number of dogs to run around with. The other all-dog enclosure is also fairly big with more than enough room for a good game of chase or fetch. And because small dogs are small, their private play area is the littlest. Gates between all three enclosures make it easier to find your pup’s style, and running water is available inside each of the smaller play areas.
Want to change it up? Walk a few blocks over to Frazer Dog Park for an open grass field that’s great for fetch.
Park Vibes
Normandale dog park has enough trees you almost feel as though you’re the forest. That means lots of shade in the summer months, which is great for hot days. Take a seat on one of the benches or picnic tables and let your dog have the best time ever. Park goers are friendly, and chances to socialize with other dogs are aplenty.
Easy Access
There’s a row of parking spaces right outside the dog park on NE 57th Ave. That’s where you’ll see a trash can and double-gated entrances to the two open-to-all areas. Walk around to the right and toward the back for the double-gated entrance to the small dog enclosure.
You can also park in the spaces on NE Hassalo St. and walk around the baseball outfield to the dog park’s south entrance.
Mud Factor
Fortunately, one of the two larger enclosures has a sandy surface for the wet weather, so your pup (and you) can have a good mud-free experience. The small-dog enclosure also stays in decent shape and still sees a lot of action, despite not having any sand.
