Just because the weather changed doesn’t mean your dog’s energy levels did. Thankfully, Gabriel’s winter dog park has a sizeable fenced off-leash area with a sandy surface to see you through the wet months. Throw in some great walking trails through one of Portland’s most beautiful parks and you won’t miss the summer quite so badly.

Play Features

The best thing going for this dog park is the sandy ground, which doesn’t really get muddy when it rains. Though the winter off-leash area is a bit smaller and much flatter than its summer counterpart, it still offers plenty of open space for a proper Chuckit! session or game of chase. And the sand will help tucker your energetic pup out even more. There’s no water inside the dog park, so bring your own.

Park Vibes

Surrounded by trees, the off-leash area feels a little secluded. Have a seat on the picnic table or a chair while your dog mingles. The dog park is fairly active and an invaluable gathering spot in the wet season.

Your dog will also love the scenic walking trails throughout the main park. Gabriel Park covers 89 acres in total, including about 30 acres of natural area, so there’s lots to explore.

Easy Access

Park in the Gabriel Park south parking lot at the end of SW Canby St. Walk past the baseball diamond and follow the path to the right. Or try your luck with the small parking lot at the community garden. There’s a double-gated entrance with trash on both sides of the dog park.

Mud Factor

Gabriel dog park – winter opens only in the rainy season for a reason: the sand helps prevent your dog—and you—from going home a muddy mess.
