Sellwood Dog Park
Sellwood is a dog’s dream come true. Featuring an open grassy area and a dog beach, this off-leash playground is guaranteed to get your pup’s tail wagging. Throw in a picnic area, bathrooms, and a free parking lot, and you’ll be coming back again and again.
Play Features
If your pup loves playing in the water or running on the beach, this is the dog park for you. Though not technically part of the off-leash area, the beach is a well-known spot where dogs can run free. Walk the shore, chuck the ball into the water, or meet the other dogs; there’s something for everyone.
If you’re not feeling the beach, the open grassy off-leash field is also a hotbed of activity. That’s where you’ll find a few trash cans (there are none on the beach), and the bathrooms are located near the parking lot.
Park Vibes
Sellwood off-leash dog park is full of good energy. Whether you play in the grass or on the beach, you’ll find happy dogs and friendly owners everywhere. Not only is it the riverfront beach the perfect place for puppy playtime, but it’s also one of the prettiest walks in town. From the Sellwood Bridge to the southern waterfront’s skyline to the cool floating houses, the views are gorgeous. Lounge on one of the picnic tables or bring a blanket and hang under a tree or on the beach. There’s no better place to spend a day with your dog.
Easy Access
To enter, take the first left from SE Oaks Park Way. Park convenient parking lot that’s shared with an office complex. There are usually free spaces no matter what time of day you’re there. However, the weekends see a lot more traffic, especially when the weather is nice, so finding parking in the lot can be more challenging on those days. Fortunately, you can also park on SE Salmon St. and walk down to the park.
Mud Factor
Sellwood dog beach is perfect in wet weather. But keep in mind that the river level can get really high in the rainy season, especially in the spring. It can severely shrink the beach and also flood the picnic area when it gets really bad. And the grassy off-leash area retains water and gets extremely sloshy after heavy rains.
