Portland International Raceway Dog Park
Portland International Raceway dog park is a paradise for runners and one of the most satisfying spots for fetch. With nine acres of wide open space, this off-leash area is guaranteed to wear your dog out.
Play Features
PIR is Portland’s largest dog park by far. The seemingly never-ending off-leash area is hands down the best place for your ball launcher. The flat, open grounds will not only allow for long throws but also give your dog a chance to reach top speed. And even though it’s not fully enclosed, there’s enough fencing and barriers on all sides that it has the feel of a fenced park.
But don’t think this off-leash area is just for the speedsters. Explorers will enjoy a nice walk along the fence that separates the park from the adjacent marsh. A row of trees also lines the other side, giving dogs plenty of sniffing opportunities.
Park Vibes
Because the park is so vast, it never feels overly crowded. Being a huge open field, there’s no real shade, so it can get pretty hot on sunny days. Make sure you bring water.
If you’re planning to go on a weekend, check to see if there’s a big race, such as NASCAR, before you go. The noise from the larger events can be overwhelming for dogs, and make for an unpleasant experience, not to mention the traffic headache it can cause.
Easy Access
The dog park is at right at the entrance to the raceway. From N Expo Rd. turn onto W. Delta Park, and the off-leash area is immediately to the right, where you’ll find a small parking lot and a gated road. But if no spaces are available there, head a little farther south down to a larger parking lot off N Broadacre Rd. If you’ve hit the raceway’s main parking lot, you’ve gone too far.
Mud Factor
Despite the fact that it’s a flat, grassy surface, the field stays in pretty good shape year-round.
