Mt. Tabor Dog Park

One of Portland’s most popular puppy playgrounds, Mt. Tabor is a blast for everyone. Part hike, part dog park, this off-leash area is perfect for all personality types. With fresh running water at two locations in the off-leash area, a mostly fenced play area, and parking, Mt. Tabor dog park is one epic puppy adventure you don’t want to miss.
Play Features
Whether your pup is an explorer or a socializer, Mt. Tabor’s off-leash area is sure to please. Play with the other dogs on the hillside, or scout all the interesting sniffs along the several paths through the forest setting.
Although not technically fenced-in, the dog park is about 95 percent enclosed except at the top where the stairs are. The fencing at the bottom of the hill is very low and can be easily cleared if you’ve got an escape artist.
There’s fresh running water at two locations inside the off-leash area. You’ll find one near the south entrance and the other in the corner at the west entrance. A trash can sits outside the double-gated entrance at SE Lincoln St., and another is outside the east entrance.
Park Vibes
This off-leash area is a destination, so you’ll encounter plenty of pups at any given time, with weekends being the busiest.
In addition to the dog park, you can leash up and take a leisurely hike through the rest of Mt. Tabor Park. Discover the many trails and soak up the gorgeous mountain scenery and peak city views.
Easy Access
There are a number entry points to the off-leash area, but the best parking for direct access is on SE Lincoln St. You can also park up on SE Harrison St. and come down the stairs (they are a little steep). Or park on SE 68th Ave. right in front of the off-leash area. However, it can be tough to find a spot here as the university takes up most of the available parking.
Mud Factor
Mt. Tabor gets really muddy in spots after a good rain. And because the dog park is on the side of an extinct volcano, it can get a bit precarious.
